For instance, after the terrible attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, he organized a benefit concert in support of the victims and their families. The concert raised over $35 million.

McCartney met John Lennon and his then band, the Quarrymen, when he was 15 at the St Peter's Church Hall fête in Woolton. The band invited McCartney to join soon after as a guitarist, and he formed a close friendship with Lennon which would one day lead to the birth of The Beatles.
